Last.fm

Postby Skaila » Sun 16 May, 2010 22:18

I'm wondering if anyone else uses Last.fm?

Last.fm scrobbles your music aka it keeps track to what you listen. It makes charts and based on those charts, it will give you recommendations.

It also lists events, friends you are compatible with and you can check your own compatibility with others.

All you have to do is download the scrobbler and it'll list the songs you play, no matter what music player you use. It also does this for iPhone, Android, etc.

Example of charts (based on my own music, so don't laugh :P)

I've been on it for a while but the paying thing made me move to Deezer. Anyway my cats just killed 5 headphone sets of mine since the beginning of the year ( :uzi: ) and if I want to listen to music again I have to find myself wireless headphones, possibly bluetooth so I can use it with the iPhone (on which I have the Deezer app as well ;)).

Last.fm has paying options? Huh. Shows what I know.

Well, mine's obviously in my signature. Had it for AGES.

One thing, though. I've got a very varied collection: classical, folk, industrial, metal and others and when it comes to recommendations, last.fm shows a clear bias in the soundtrack and folk genres so it isn't really that great about it. But it's a fun gadget to keep track of music and gigs.

Last.fm is also available on Xbox Live. Sadly not in all countries; and not in France yet :(

You don't have to pay for Last.fm. i've tried it out now to see what's different.

All that IS different is that you can make playlists and see who has visited your profile. But apart from that i don't see an immediate difference.

I do have to agree that I get recommendations from gothic metal and soundtracks. I don't even listen to gothic metal... I think O_o I always assumed it would show me more recommendations linked to my love that is David Bowie or at least my top ten. I guess not.

However, it made me discover Krypteria and a couple of other bands, so can't complain there.

PLUS you can download some free music. Some isn't half bad, some is even great *coughtheFrayedLacescough* Nasty cough :D

I don't remember which it was but I used Last.fm through a client software which at a time didn't want to run if I didn't pay. It was a while ago though. Might give it another try...

How odd. I just use their own scrobbling thing (it works with winamp, itunes and vlc) and I'm set.
